Experienced midfielder Michael Masters returned to the England National team at the weekend, after taking a year out away from the charity in 2022.
Speaking to EAFA, Masters said: “It’s good to be back with the lads.
“It was painful for me to sit at home and watch it (World Cup), so I’ve come back in the hope of taking them to the next level.”
He added: “I hope to pass on my experience of what I’ve learnt over the last 10 years.
“There’s a good bunch of lads here who know they have the ability, but hopefully my knowledge of the game and communication will be a massive key to bringing the lads even closer together.”
Having already represented England at two World Cups and two European Championships,
interim Head Coach, Scott Rogers is delighted to have the experience of the 36-year-old back amongst the squad.
Rogers said: “It’s absolutely massive to have Michael back and what’s important is that we have strength and depth in the squad and I feel he’s a real critical addition to the team.
“With such a young squad I think his wealth of knowledge will support the rest of the group in their development - being able to learn from his advice and guidance will show just what a role model he is.”
The Hertfordshire-born man thrives off tournament football and with the newly formed Nations League just six months away, Masters is hopeful of tournament success.
He said: “I can’t wait, it’s a new tournament with a tough group but if we continue to work hard and buy into what the coaching team are asking, then all we can do is go there and try our best.
“We know what our opponents (Turkey, Poland, and Spain) are like, but on our day, we can beat anyone - We’ve just got to dig deep, train hard and we’ll see what happens.”
Masters will be in action for Portsmouth FC this weekend as the EAFL 2023 season gets underway at the Home of Amputee Football.
