Vacancy: Physiotherapist/Sports Therapist for The EAFA Men's National Team

The EAFA has an exciting opportunity for a new Physiotherapist/Sports Therapist to work with our Men's National Team as we prepare for November's World Cup in Mexico.
Role Purpose
To lead the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and injury prevention of England Amputee Football squad athletes, ensuring optimal physical readiness for training and competition. Reporting to Head of Medical, the role requires advanced clinical reasoning, experience in para-sport, and the ability to operate autonomously in high-performance and pitch-side emergency environments.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Rehabilitation
● Deliver comprehensive musculoskeletal (MSK) assessment and diagnosis of acute and chronic injuries.
● Design and implement evidence-based rehabilitation programmes specific to amputee athletes (considering prosthetic use, asymmetry, and compensatory load patterns).
● Progress athletes through return-to-play (RTP) protocols aligned with functional and sport-specific benchmarks.
● Maintain detailed medical records in compliance with GDPR and professional standards.
Matchday & Pitch-Side Duties
● Act as the lead pitch-side clinician during all fixtures and training camps.
● Provide immediate assessment and management of injuries including trauma, concussion, and medical emergencies.
● Coordinate emergency action plans (EAPs) and liaise with external medical services when required.
● Ensure all medical equipment (trauma bag, AED, spinal board) is match-ready.
Injury Prevention & Performance Support
● Implement screening protocols (movement, strength, prosthetic interface considerations).
● Collaborate with S&C coaches to optimise load management and reduce injury risk.
● Educate players on self-management, recovery strategies, and prosthetic care.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
● Work within a multidisciplinary team (coaches, S&C, performance analysts).
● Communicate clearly regarding player availability, risk, and RTP timelines.
● Contribute to performance meetings and athlete monitoring systems.
Administration & Governance
● Maintain professional registration and CPD.
● Adhere to safeguarding, equality, and inclusion policies.
● Travel nationally and internationally with the squad (availability for the World Cup 11-23 November is essential)
Essential Qualifications
Professional Registration
● BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, Sports Therapy or Sports Rehabilitation, or equivalent recognised qualification
● Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or an accredited member of The Society of Sports Therapists (SST)
● Accredited member of British Association of Sport Rehabilitators and Trainers (BASRaT).
● Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) or The Society of Sports Therapists (SST)
Pitch-Side Emergency Care (Mandatory)
● FA Advanced Trauma Medical Management in Football (ATMMiF / ITMMiF equivalent)
● Immediate Care in Sport (Level 2 or 3) – e.g., Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care aligned course
● Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) + AED certification
● Up-to-date Concussion Management Training (e.g., FIFA / World Rugby protocols adapted to football)
● Ethical practice and confidentiality
● Cultural competence in para sport
● Reflective practice and CPD engagement
