Excitement is building ahead of The England Amputee Men’s National Team’s first training camp of the year this weekend, a moment signalling that the road to the 2026 World Cup has begun.
Head Coach Gary Markheineke is entering his second year in charge alongside his coaching staff, which includes his assistant and former international team mate Ray Westbrook. Marheineke’s talented squad secured third place at the EAFF Nations League in September and, as a group, there were plenty of positives and experience to take forward from the tournament.
Now all focus is on this year’s World Cup in Costa Rica.

Unlike conditions expected in Costa Rica, CW5 is likely to produce freezing temperatures - but that won’t deter from a weekend of hard work as England prepare for a big year together.
Players including Martin Heald, Kieran Lambourne, Liam Burbridge and Michael Masters are taking a break from international football, leaving spaces for players to earn their place at the World Cup. Meanwhile Dave Tweed, who reached 150 international appearances last summer, joins the national team’s coaching staff with a huge wealth of experience in the sport.
But it’s not only players and staff who can play their part in England’s World Cup journey.
The EAFA needs to raise vital funds to not only get England to the World Cup, but to also continue the important work across the charity that provides amputee football opportunities from grassroots up to international level. The EAFA is a fully volunteer run charity, so your donations directly enable amputee footballers to play the game they love.
