The countdown to the EAFF Nations League is entering its final stage as England travel to Türkiye in defence of their title.
After winning England’s first piece of major silverware in over 30 years in the inaugural competition, The EAFA’s Men’s National Team have worked hard under new management in preparation of a huge weekend of amputee football.
“The energy within the squad has been brilliant,” Head Coach Gary Marheineke told The EAFA website. “Players and staff alike are eager to get going and you can feel the anticipation building.”
England begin the tournament in Friday’s (12th September) opener against Poland. Sunday sees England face hosts Türkiye, notably the current World and European champions, after playing Division B victors Italy on Saturday.
Following all the build-up and preparations, Head Coach Gary Marheineke is looking forward to the challenges ahead this weekend.
“We’ve worked hard in camp to make sure the team is prepared physically, tactically, and mentally. The Nations League brings a different kind of challenge, and the players have embraced that in training.”

Having taken over managerial duties this year alongside his assistant Ray Westbrook and new coaching staff, Marheineke wants to see how the squad now fares against the best sides Europe has to offer.
“Our focus is on consistent performances. We want to test ourselves against top opposition, continue to grow as a group, and ultimately be competitive in every game. Of course, winning matches is the aim, but just as important is building momentum and laying foundations for the future.”
With Marheineke’s men ready to arrive in Trabzon to compete for honours, Gary is keen to note it’s not just the players travelling who have worked hard to get to this point.
“I’d like to recognise the players who haven’t made the travelling squad this time — their contribution in training and their professionalism has been outstanding. They remain an important part of what we’re building.”
In addition, outside support from sponsors plus those close to the charity and players are vital in powering England to major tournaments.
“A big thank you also to our sponsors IKO PLC. Their support is essential in allowing us to prepare and perform at the highest level. And of course, a word for our support staff and supporters, whose backing makes all the difference.”
Now it’s time for England to give their all on the European stage, “We are looking forward to getting underway,” Marheineke concludes.
