Yet more fun and amputee football is on the horizon at this weekend’s Junior Training Camp, thanks to the generous support of The DJ Sidebottom/Glasdon Charitable Programme.
The EAFA caught up with Junior Head Coach Harry Smith ahead of all the action.
“It’s been a long break since all the juniors have been together,” Harry told The EAFA website.
“I’m sure everyone is excited to get back to training, seeing all their friends and catching up on all their exciting stories over the summer.”
As with all junior camps, the focus is on trying amputee football in a fun and safe environment with tutoring from our FA-licensed coaches. For this weekend, that means lots of goals are in store.
“This camp will be focused on shooting, which is always a popular theme. Our coaches will incorporate lots of fun games with the outcome of hopefully scoring lots of goals.”
This year has seen plenty of graduates through EAFA’s Junior Programme playing in The IKO EAFL and even on the international stage, showcasing an important pathway for the future of amputee football.
“It’s great for us to see young juniors progressing through the programme and taking those important next steps in the sport. It shows that our pathway is working.
“However, we are constantly striving to improve that pathway to ensure more juniors get these amazing opportunities as they progress through the programme,” noted Smith.

The partnership between The EAFA and The DJ Sidebottom/Glasdon Charitable Programme has enabled a record number of children from across the country to access amputee football and Harry commends their commitment.
“DJ Sidebottom/Glasdon Charitable Programme’s support has been vital in allowing us to put on more camps, therefore increasing contact time with our young athletes and also allowing them to meet up on a more regular basis.
“It enables them to be part of the EAFA family, where they have that important relatability with others.”
To add to this, Harry Smith also wants to show his appreciation for the amazing volunteers who give up their time to make these training camps happen.
“I want to give a big shout out to all our staff this year. It’s been a very busy year and they constantly strive to make a difference and put on the best camps possible each time,” Harry ended.
