Hughes: We're Well Prepared

Portsmouth’s Kirk Hughes believes his side are ‘well prepared’ for the upcoming League Cup games on March 18.

After a successful first matchday of the season, Pompey are the only unbeaten side, winning two games against Arsenal and Everton – scoring 10 goals in the process.

Hughes scored against the Gunners, and he said: “We had some great results.

“The team played exactly how we expected, carrying the form from last season into this season.

“This is only my second season in the game and to get a goal against Arsenal was an added bonus.”

With cup games just around the corner, the league leaders take on Everton in semi-final one, the first fixture of the afternoon.

The previous match-up finished 5-2, with the Toffees taking the lead.

“We didn’t expect to go two-nil down against Everton, but we fought hard regrouped and got the victory in the end,” said Hughes.

A win for the south coast side would see them face either Arsenal or Chelsea in the final, something that Hughes is excited about.

“We are really looking forward to the cup games coming up and everybody is well prepared for them,” he said.

“We are going to take the form that we are accustomed to and hopefully get the results we need.

“I’m really looking forward to it and raring to go!”
